Wow, I'm launching in just over a week, and I can't believe how timely this offering is. I've spent my day following the tutorial and managed to completely brand the entire publication. I'm chuffed to bits. Thank you so, so much, Keeley and Sara. Abraços e beijinhos!

I'm pretty sure it's just me, as I saw someone else comment about watching the video, but when I click on the video link it comes up with a message on Vimeo saying Sorry we couldn't find that page.

Ay ideas why that would be? Thanks!

Hi Collette! It’s not just you, the Vimeo link every now & then glitches out, we think because of high traffic. It is the correct link though, refreshing a couple of times. ⭐️ Sorry it’s doing that!

Ahhh ok, no worries. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll try again in the morning! 🤞🏻

Is the link working for others now? I still can't see it...

I tried canva before and couldn’t figure it out. I ended up building a logo thru Looka and was just about to buy it. Can I take the logo from there and apply it to these specific Substack sizes? Or do you have to start from scratch with logo on canva?

Expand full comment

What did you get stuck on in Canva? If you do decide to buy the logo you can upload it into Canva as a png with transparent background and adjust that image to the canvas size. However, it will depend on how the logo sits within the allocated size. Sometimes you can play around with a screenshot of the logo you're looking to buy, upload that as a placeholder in canva just to see if it's going to work for you. It won't be perfect, but it will give you a bit of an idea before you go & purchase the logo. Just means you can more easily check if that logo will suit the Substack dimensions before you get more technical/fiddly with stuff.

I felt I needed to be a graphic artist with Canva. Where the others were more for laypeople like myself. I knew the image I was looking for and name of course, but I will give it another try after watching your tutorial.

And I’ll try the tip about using a pic of the logo first. At very least this might save me having to buy the full brand package as its geared to all other social media and not substack. Which is why your post and tools are so brilliant. I can’t thank you enough.

Give it a go, see if it helps. You can also copy and paste any element or text from any of the designs and add to the canvas you're using. If you open up the design you want to copy from in a separate tab, you can copy it and paste it onto your wordmark for example. Just if that helps you with creating your logo. So if you see a logo you like in one of Canva's templates, you can copy and resize/adjust to what you're creating.

You can upload your own graphic elements to Canva, yes! If it’s been a while since you tried using it it’s worth another chance, I think - they have made things a lot more intuitive over time

Ok gang. I tried for hours today. I was able to get my Looka logo into Canva. I really like to fool around and learn new things, but I started to get too frustrated. I'm not a graphic designer and it still felt too technical for me. I'm going to leave it again for awhile and try again another time. But for now, it's back to the writing part. Thanks for trying to get this untrained graphics person slightly better educated. :)

Hi! from Looka you can export SVG files, do that one instead and then upload to Canva and that will give you the freedom to change color and resize (even for printing) without getting blurry (or look low resolution); it will also be useful to put on top of a photo like the "Square logo & profile pic" included in the bundle!— SVG is a vector file which Canva can read—yes, the App is that amazing! ^.^

Thanks very much. I'll give that a try.

Hello beautiful souls and thank you for doing this for us. I already use Canva but yes, the struggle with figuring out the sizes for things is real and HOW COOL is your signature sign off!

Unfortunately, the video is not launching for me. It tells me, sorry, we couldn't find that page.

This is amazing, thank you! And so lovely to hear a fellow Australian voice on your walkthrough video! For anyone new to Canva, you’ll need to have a pro account to use the transparency option 👍🏻 thanks for creating these templates, I can’t wait to play around!

Ooh I didn’t know that about the transparency - been so long since I switched to pro. Thanks so much for the heads up Aimee - will add a note to the post to let others know xx

Aimee! Fellow Aussie! 🤍 So good to have you here. We might need a secret handshake or something. And yessss thank you for bringing that up! Like Sara, it’s been ages since I had a free account & I forgot transparent background was probably my main motivator for going pro!

Even though I'm an expert Canva user, I think this is a great idea, and will have a look. Sometimes, we all need a fresh take on things! Thank you for sharing your resources! 😊

Thanks Debs! Mostly we just wanted all the sizes and elements in one place, so we didn’t have to go hunting around for the different dimensions etc. Those little jobs that end up sucking up so much time!
